Content Designer

Job summary
We're looking for a talent and proactive Content Designer to help us continually improve our digital content and online user experience.

What you'll do:
Working in a small team of digital content specialists, you’ll edit, author and manage our website content, whilst continuously looking to improve the user experience.

You’ll produce flawless English, but more than this, you’ll make our content smarter: telling users what they need, in a way they can easily find and understand. You’ll know how to make information and webpages user-focused, well-structured and in plain language – and you’ll use data to inform your decisions as much as possible.

Day to day you could be working on anything from a request to update one sentence to advising on campaign content or restructuring an entire area of the site. Either way, you’ll apply your editorial skills, digital content knowledge and UX focus to inform your work and create the right solution for our users.

You’ll collaborate with literally anyone, but it’s the digital team you call home, and you’ll also work with this group of developers, designers, scrum masters and fellow content designers to identify and roll out iterative improvements to the website – testing and giving content input on new features and improvements.

This is a varied and fast-paced role, so you’ll need to be comfortable learning about and dipping into other digital content sub-disciplines, such as information architecture, taxonomy, document management and UX writing. If you don’t already have experience in these areas, this is a great opportunity to gain a broad knowledge of all things digital content.
What we are looking for:

We’re looking for someone with excellent digital editing skills, an indefatigable user focus, and a passion for turning complex content into well-structured plain English.

The ideal candidate will also have:

• Excellent understanding of the English language, with a degree in a relevant field.
• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Good understanding of information architecture, taxonomy, usability and accessibility.
• Good understanding of web analytics, metadata and SEO.
• Good understanding of content management systems, publishing workflows, archiving and content maintenance.
• Good understanding of content design and the benefits of its user-needs approach.
• Extensive hands-on editorial experience, including working within and creating house styles and governance, and raising content standards.
• Confidence explaining decisions, analyses and recommendations to stakeholders of varying levels of seniority and digital content knowledge.
• Great inter-personal skills, flexible can-do attitude, and drive for continuous improvement.
